Deaf Focus works to provide Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deafblind people equal, immediate and universal access to resources, community services, and events. We understand that to be Deaf is to be a part of a vibrant culture and language-rich community that needs to be preserved, shared and appreciated. Our mission is to fill gaps in the community by providing services such as:

  • Community – Advocating and educating the community through resources such as life transition assistance, job training, and career support.

  • Communication– Providing quality sign language interpreting, American Sign Language classes, and communication intervention.

  • Counseling– Offering comprehensive clinical, cultural, and linguistic intervention services to individuals, children, families, and professionals through our licensed therapists.

We support those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing clients and need assistance in overcoming communication barriers and accessing community resources. Deaf Focus staff works  through our intake process to determine your individual needs and goals. Our agency is unique in that we are the only community agency in Louisiana specialized in serving people who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and Hard of Hearing though such a wide array of services. As several of our staff are Deaf, we can provide first-hand knowledge for information on Deafness, sign language and other communication methods . We also coordinate with other agencies to ensure appropriate referrals are made in the event Deaf Focus is not able to meet individual  needs.  We provide workshops, information, and resources related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), as well as educational professional development.
